Maintenance Engineer-Full-time - Facilities
Under the daily supervision of the Facilities Manager and the general direction of the Facilities Director, the Maintenance Engineer performs a wide variety of complex technical hospital building operations, maintenance, repair, installation, and alteration activities involving carpentry, plumbing, painting, mechanical, HVAC, boilers, medical equipment, medical gas and vacuum equipment, and electrical work to improve, maintain, and renovate CHN buildings, facilities, integral fixtures, equipment and related work as required.

Performs preventative/planned maintenance as well as repair work. Expected to work independently, exercise judgment and initiative. Position receives instruction or assistance when new or unusual assignments arise and are expected to be fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the facilities department. Facilities Maintenance Engineers are required to be periodically on-call to respond to emergencies 24/7 and to work various shifts on days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and during emergencies as needs arise.

Essential Functions:
Operates the utility, energy, life safety, and specialized patient-care environments and system at Curry General Hospital (Gold Beach), Curry Medical Center (Brookings), Curry Family Medical (Port Orford), and other satellite buildings
Performs preventative and corrective maintenance on all facilities-related equipment, systems, buildings, and infra-structure, to ensure maximum reliability and efficiency at all times.
Contacts and coordinates work of specialized contractors to correct problems outside the abilities of the Facilities department.
Completes work independently, as part of the facilities team, CHN inter-departmental team, or with outside vendors
Complies with applicable Federal, State, NFPA, DNV, AHJ, CMS, local codes, and ordinances relevant to healthcare facilities operations and maintenance.
Understands and follows healthcare facilities specific operating, maintenance, and safety processes (e.g., Infection Control processes, Interim Life Safety Measure processes, Electrical Safety, Fire/Life Safety and Fire Drill processes).
Responds to fire alarms, code calls, helicopter ops, and emergencies in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Performs security functions as needed. Performs landscape and grounds maintenance.
Performs electrical safety tests and operational/functional checks on all new equipment that arrives at CHN or any equipment that has had major maintenance performed.
Performs minor maintenance and troubleshooting on Medical Equipment. Coordinates and communicates with the contracted Bio-Med service provider for all other Medical Equipment maintenance and repairs.
Performs customer-initiated work requests such as assembling components, responding to hot/cold calls, installing new equipment and fixtures, assisting with project-related work, assisting with set-ups and removal of equipment, moves office furniture.
Performs additional duties as required to support the overall effectiveness of the department and organizational performance in accordance with CHN’s Mission, Vision and Shared Values.

Education and Experience:
A high school diploma, a trade school or industrial diploma or certificate or equivalent is required; an Associate degree or equivalent is preferred.
Three years of full-time journey-level skilled experience preforming construction, PM, and complex building maintenance, including HVAC, electrical, and plumbing tasks is required.
A valid driver license and current statutory limits of auto insurance are required.
Experience with the operation and maintenance of hospital facilities and equipment is preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:
Knowledge of the safe operating methods of equipment and tools and safety regulations used in various skilled building maintenance activities.
Knowledge of construction level math skills.
Skills for reading and interpreting schematics, drawings, instructions, and blueprints.
Ability to use common computer applications and be trained for work related programs.
Ability to operate power and hand tools correctly and effectively.
Ability to use and interpret various gauges and meters used in building maintenance.
Must successfully complete on-line Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) trainings 100 & 200 within 90 days of employment with additional FEMA training to be assigned and ongoing.
