Infection Preventionist - Quality

Consults with physicians, managers, and staff for the management of infectious and/or immuno-suppressed patients. Implements an effective hospital-wide infection control program in keeping with Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and other regulatory agencies. Participates in the organization performance improvement program.

Essential Functions:
Develops and maintains a system for identifying, reporting, investigating and controlling infections and communicable diseases of patients and staff.
Develops, implements, and continually monitors the infection control policies and procedures for all departments.
Implements a surveillance system for detecting and monitoring hospital acquired and community infections.
Ensures compliance to regulatory requirements. Collaborates with local and state health departments in the prevention, control, and appropriate reporting of communicable diseases.
Provides physicians and staff with updates of infection control policy changes.
Investigates outbreaks or clusters of infections. Monitors, analyzes, and interprets bacteriology reports and infection statistics, recommends appropriate control measures to prevent dissemination of resistant microorganisms and pathogens.
Participates in ongoing infection control educational programs for employees, including TB, HIV/Hep/Universal Precautions. May educate patients, staff, physicians, and community partners as necessary.
Confer with medical and nursing staff to determine the appropriate implementation of Transmission -Based Precautions (isolation precautions).
Consults with physicians, managers, and staff for the management of infectious and/or immuno-suppressed patients.
Reviews cultures and sensitivities reported by microbiology laboratory of patients and staff to determine if infection is healthcare associated in origin
Other duties as assigned to support the overall effectiveness of the department and organizational performance in accordance with Curry Health Network’s Mission, Vision and Shared Values.

Minimum Education and Experience:
Must possess either of the following:
-a current unencumbered RN license is required (Oregon RN licensure preferred, but not required) combined with a BSN (strongly preferred) – OR –
-an advanced degree in Epidemiology or Public Health.
Current APIC membership. CIC Certification within 1 year of hire.
Current AHA Healthcare Provider BLS, ACLS Certification preferred.
Three (3) or more years of experience in a related field.
At least one (1) year previous experience in departmental management.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
Additional languages preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong computer knowledge and ability, including Microsoft Suite
