Lab Assistant - Gold Beach - Gold Beach, OR
Perform all aspects of patient care in a laboratory environment that optimizes patient safety with minimal medical/health care errors. Collects specimens from patients of all ages via venipuncture or dermal puncture. Provides collection instructions to patients for specimen collections that the patient is responsible for. Verifies provider orders are entered into the LIS correctly. Processes and prepare specimens for testing or submission to reference laboratory accurately.
Essential Functions:
●Verifies patient information matches orders/labels prior to collecting specimens. ●Uses correct phlebotomy technique for specimen collection; collects the appropriate amount of blood and tubes; labels specimens at bedside/chair in presence of patient. ●Documents collection date/time and initials on specimens and in LIS. ●Processes and prepares specimens for testing and processes and prepares specimens to be sent sent to reference laboratory with minimum errors. ●Contributes to a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, physicians and co-workers by following established standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations ●Enhances laboratory services and hospital reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments. ●Other duties as assigned by the Laboratory Lead, the Laboratory Supervisor or the Laboratory Manager to support the needs of the department and in accordance with Curry Health Network's Mission, Vision and Shared Values.
Minimum Education & Experience:
●A high school diploma or equivalent is required. ●Certification or experience as a Phlebotomy Technician is preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
The skills required for:
●proper specimen collection, including patient preparation, if applicable, labeling, handling, preservation or fixation, processing or preparation, transportation and storage of specimens. ●implementing all standard laboratory procedures: ●performing each test method; and ●proper instrument use. ●implementing procedures of the laboratory. ●using network EMR, LIS, and electronic communication.
