NOTE FROM THE CEO

This month I have some good news and some not so good news.

Let’s start with the good news first. We have two new providers joining our network; Karen Morrow, FNP is a nurse practitioner, who specializes in family and pediatric medicine. She joins us from Crescent City where she has an established practice.

Greg Tjossem, MD is a Family Practice doctor joining us from Iowa. Both will start in January and provide much needed capacity in Brookings.

How many hours of sleep did you get last night? Our alarm clocks jolt us awake before the sun is up in the mornings, and parents and children alike often do not find themselves drifting off to sleep until late into the night. Many high school students and their parents stumble out the door each morning with only 5 or 6 hours of sleep to get them through the day. They are bleary-eyed and only partially coherent. But that’s what coffee is for, right? Wrong.

October 2009 Physician Updates

Please join us in welcoming Dr. William Fitts, to the Curry Health Family. He and his wife, Barbara, are excited to be a part of this growing and dynamic network in one of the most beautiful parts of the world! 

Dr. Fitts was born in Twin Falls, Idaho and graduated college from Boise State University, Boise, Idaho. He then received his medical degree at Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, Missouri.

Dr. Fitts is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, as well as Advanced Laparoscopy, and brings a wealth of knowledge to our Curry Network Family.


September 2009 Physician Updates

Dr. MaryKay Wagner grew up in Dallas, Texas, attending medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch. She moved to Portland, Oregon in 1985 and completed a pediatric residency at Oregon Health Sciences University. She joined a Pediatric group practice in Portland and became certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. 

Dr. Wagner has interests in adolescent medicine, ADHD, learning disabilities and international adoption. She has been a member of medical teams providing medical care, food and supplies to orphanages in Romania and Chile. Most recently, she has been a part of a pilot television program “Parenting Today”, in which she wrote and presented medical information for families. 

She and her husband, Blake Middleton, have a blended family of six wonderful children. In her off time, she enjoys playing classical guitar, dance, golf, and entertaining close friends with her husband and family. 

She is very much looking forward to getting to know the people in her new chosen home,  THE COUNTY OF CURRY!


May 2009 Physician Updates

The Curry Health Network is pleased to announce the August return of William McDougall, D.O. to Brookings. He, too, is looking forward to “returning home” and re-establishing with his patients at the Brookings Medical Center, 585 5th Street.

Dr. McDougall took his undergraduate work at Western Michigan University; Graduate work at New Mexico State University and Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. His Postgraduate work was done at Oakland Naval Hospital and his Residency at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Washington.

Dr. McDougall has a world of practical experience, starting as a U.S. Navy Flight Surgeon, and most recently as a member of the staff at Crescent City Internal Medicine. In addition to his focus on Internal Medicine, Dr. McDougall also incorporates traditional and holistic approaches to his patient’s care.

March 2009 Physician Updates
March 1, 2009

Dr John WrightJohn Wright, MD has joined Curry Health District as our full-time, resident Orthopedic Surgeon. He is a general orthopedic surgeon, specializing in adult general orthopedics and pediatric orthopedic trauma. Dr. Wright recently moved from Borger, Texas.

The District has significantly boosted its surgical capacity with a new fracture table and an extensive array of orthopedic instruments and implants. In March 2009, Dr .Wright will provide arthroscopy and joint replacement surgery, as well as fracture repair. We are delighted to provide new orthopedic services to you.

Dr. Wright sees patients in Gold Beach at Curry Medical Practice (CGH Annex) and at the Brookings Medical Center. Clinic days in Gold Beach are Monday and Friday, and in Brookings, Tuesday and Thursday. Surgery is performed on Wednesday. Appoints can be made at 541-247-3155.

Dr Paul CoelhoPaul Coelho, MD transferred his practice to Curry Health District in January 2009. He specializes in physiatry, which is defined as physical medicine and rehabilitation. Dr. Coelho sees patients at Curry Medical Practice, Brookings Medical Center, and Curry Family Medical. Referrals and appointments may be made at 541-247-3155. Dr. Coelho also sees patients in Crescent City, California.

February 2009 Physician Updates
February 1, 2009

Curry Health Network welcomes Dr. Wright, who joins us from Borger, Texas. Dr. Wright took his undergraduate education at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio Texas; Medical School at the University of Texas Health Science Center, and completed his Orthopedic Residency at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, Texas. He serves in the Army Reserves, holding the rank of Major, and was deployed to Iraq for Desert Shield/Storm and to Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom.

Dr. Wright provides general orthopedic care and his practice with Curry Health Network will include arthroscopy, fusions, internal and external fixation, joint replacements (partial, total and revision), soft tissue repair and carpal tunnel release.

Dr. Wright will see patients in Gold Beach at Curry Medical Practice (CGH Annex) on Mondays and Fridays, in Brookings at Brookings Medical Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and in Port Orford at Curry Family Medical on the 3rd Thursday of every month. He will perform surgeries at Curry General Hospital on Wednesdays. Appointments can be made at 247-3155.


January 2009 Physician Updates
January 1, 2009

Dr. Paul Coelho, Physiatrist, has transferred his practice to Curry Health District as of January 5, 2009. His contact number is 541-247-3154. Referrals and appointments may be made at this number for Dr. Coelho’s office locations in Gold Beach, Port Orford, Brookings and Crescent City.

John Wright, MD, Orthopedic Surgeon, has informed the hospital that he will establish a full time practice in General Orthopedics with clinics in Gold Beach at Curry Medical Practice (Curry General Hospital Annex) and in Brookings at Brookings Medical Center.

Dr. Wright will be at Curry General Hospital during the first week in January to establish clinical protocols, training schedules, equipment requirements and house hunting. Dr. Wright is from Borger, Texas.


Introducing Jose Espaillat, MD Psychiatrist
December 1, 2008

Dr Jose EspaillatCurry Health District welcomes Dr. Espaillat as we open our new behavioral health office at 603 Hemlock Street, Hemlock Plaza, Suite 2D, Brookings. This office will house Dr. Espaillat, Dr. Warren Krick, and Karen Dieter, MSW.

Dr. Espaillat completed his medical training at Ponce School of Medicine in Ponce, P.R. and his General Psychiatry training at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and Child Psychiatry training at Children's National Medical Center in Washington DC where he was Chief Resident. Dr. Espaillat will see Children, Adolescents and Adults and provide medical management of behavioral health issues and individual psychotherapy. He served in the US Army Reserve and National Guard, is married with two children, he’s a tri-athlete and his wife is an artist.
